Personal Experience

James J. Ammeen, Jr. has had a robust legal career spanning over three decades. As Managing Member of Ammeen & Associates, P.C., Mr. Ammeen is experienced in business, commercial litigation, mediation and other forms or alternative dispute resolution, probate and family matters, small business law, professional licensing, and campaign finance and election law.

Mr. Ammeen graduated from Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 1995, where he and his colleague Megan Clark Johnson were honored with the Faculty Award for Outstanding Law Student. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College in 1985. Mr. Ammeen’s commitment to excellence and his extensive experience, strategic approach, and dedication to service were reflected in his service as Editor-in-Chief of the Indiana International and Comparative Law Review during law school.

Throughout his career, Mr. Ammeen has held significant positions. He served as a Law Clerk for Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard of the Indiana Supreme Court from 1995 to 1997. He began in private practice as an Associate at Baker & Daniels, LLP. He was with Lewis & Kappes, P.C., where he was a Director. In 2007, he opened a new law office and became the Managing Member of Ammeen & Associates, P.C., a role he held until the firm merged with Valenzuela Law in 2019. His partners retired in 2023, and he resumed as Managing at Ammeen & Associates LLC.

Mr. Ammeen is admitted to practice in Indiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana, as well as the Northern District of Illinois.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Ammeen has been actively involved in many professional organizations, including the Indianapolis Bar Association, Republican National Lawyers Association, Federalist Society, and St. Thomas More Society. His dedication to the legal profession and to equal justice for all is further exemplified by his service as director on boards of both the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic (21 years) and Indiana Legal Services Corp. (12 years). He also servied on the Indianapolis Regional Center Plan 2020 Placemaking Committee.

His practice areas encompass a broad spectrum, including appellate practice, real estate contracts, commercial constitutional law, international business law, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, family and juvenile law, probate, trust and real property, administrative law, Chapter 11 bankruptcy, divorce and separation, personal injury, and employment and labor law.
