Personal Experience
Gene A. Wheeler is a native and life-long resident of Indiana. Gene obtained his B.A. from Ball State University, working as a broadcaster before graduating cum laude from Indiana University’s McKinney School of Law. Seven years of courtroom litigation and appellate experience with a strong emphasis in creditors’ rights in state and federal courts allowed Gene to transition to an “in-house” counsel position for an Indiana-based publicly traded Fortune 1000 commercial secured lender. Gene later shifted to a similar role for one of the largest privately held corporations in the United States, with operations in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada. In the fourteen years Gene spent in-house, his practice area broadened to include self-insured and insured personal injury defense, regulatory matters, vendor relationships, and the supervision of a network of outside litigation counsel in multiple jurisdictions. Gene took an active role in devising strategy, composing legal briefs, and facilitating dispute resolution via negotiation, mediation, and settlement. Gene has actively litigated and managed other litigators from the plaintiffs’ and defendants’ sides and has co-authored multiple appellate briefs which resulted in published decisions in favor of his clients.
Gene’s in-house experience gives him a unique perspective in serving for Ammeen & Associates business clients. Gene is an attorney but has also served as a client enlisting the services of other attorneys on behalf of his employers. This gives Gene a unique grasp of the balance to be stricken among financial, practical, and reputational concerns of a business enterprise. That background and knowledge of the law allow Gene to advise Ammeen & Associates’ financial institution clients on legal issues touching operations, governmental regulation, community and customer relations, and litigation.
Gene is the proud father of two daughters and resides in Fishers.
